Note: We stayed in Las Vegas for 10 nights and went to the strip multiple times. We rested, blogged, caught up on shopping and goofed off. I am going to divide our Las Vegas blog posts into 4 posts: Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam. Vegas by day and Vegas by night.
We went to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on Sept 2. They have a wonderful visitor center geared towards teaching children about the dessert, the canyon and the animals that live there. They have a large dessert tortoise habitat with 7 tortoises. We got to see two of them. They tend to hide after they are fed to get out of the sun. The park is a 13 mile one way loop around the canyon with overlooks and hikes. We took a few of the short hikes. We saw many bicyclists doing the loop.
Next to Red Rock Canyon there is another area called Red Springs. It is a board walk around local ecosystems. The boardwalk was being redone but we were still able to get over to see the petroglyphs.
